Just follow my golden rules:
- Try to find out when press day is - the last thing a journalist wants when they are up against deadlines is another PR pitch on the phone.
- Make the editorial assistant your best friend - central to the team, the editorial assistant can field calls, tell you who the best contact is and update you on features they might be working on.
- Get the right contact for your news - there might be a different contact for food, books and health. Find out.
